Who is Eddie Maine on General Hospital?

Ned would wake up and think he is Eddie Maine. What if Ned travels back in time and awakens as Eddie Maine, the alias he used in the 1990s when he was attempting to become a rock star?

Who is Eddie Maine?

To pursue his aspirations of becoming a rock star, Ned Ashton took the pseudonym Eddie Maine in 1993. Newer viewers might ask, “Who? That they are unaware of one of the most amazing love stories to ever take place in Port Charles (and Brooklyn, New York) makes me a little sad.

However, we will try to present the story to you in the simplest possible form.

Ned has led a double life

Ned’s dissatisfaction with his life as an ELQ executive was where it all started. He suddenly decided that his dream was to become a rock star.

He met Lois Cerullo, a woman whose influence would forever alter his life while performing under the alias “Eddie Maine.” Sparks began to fly between the two right away, but there was one very significant issue:

Will Ned go back to Lois?

Ned and Lois were the perfect couple. Unless you take into account the fact that she was unaware of his true identity!

While “Eddie” married Lois, Ned also got hitched, though his marriage to Katherine was based more on blackmail than love. When Lois burst out of the cake at Katherine’s birthday party and wished Mrs. Ned Ashton a “Happy Birthday” from the other Mrs. Ned Ashton, things came to a particularly nasty (although entertaining for the audience) head.

Despite this rather tragic turn of events, Ned and Lois eventually reconciled and welcomed their stunning daughter, Brook Lynn, into the world.

However, when he was forced to choose between his family and his business, things started to go wrong (again).  But now that “Eddie” has returned, will Ned still have feelings for his wife Olivia? Or his heart belongs to  Lois now.

For performances at the Nurses Ball, Ned only adopts his Eddie Maine persona.

Even though Ned Ashton and Wally Kurth, who plays Eddie Maine, no longer regularly portray the character on “General Hospital,” they still occasionally do so at the annual Nurses Ball (via SoapHub).

The Idle Rich, Eddie Maine’s band, first performed “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” at the Nurses Ball in 1995, and they did it again in 2000 when they performed “Simply Irresistible.” In 1997, 1998, and 1999, Ned also gave performances in his persona. “General Hospital” retired the Nurses Ball from 2002 to 2012, but the event returned in full force in 2013.

In 2014 and 2015, Eddie Maine performed Meat Loaf’s “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth” and Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” respectively. Between 2017 and 2020, Ned appeared in dance numbers with his wife Olivia Quartermaine.

According to Soaps, several real-life celebrities have appeared at The Nurses Ball, including Richard Simmons, Mario Lopez, Carla Hall from “The Chew,” Chandra Wilson from “Grey’s Anatomy,” and others.

Wally Kurth performed to raise money for charity

The Nurses Ball is a charitable event that supports HIV/AIDS research and is depicted in “General Hospital” as raising awareness and funds. Wally Kurth was thrilled to use Eddie Maine, his alter ego, to help The Ryan White Foundation, which offers assistance to people living with HIV, raise money (via Soap Central).

Kurth explained this in an interview with Lifestyle Magazine: “[As part of] Eddie Maine and the Idle Rich, the band I played with, we played about 40 times, we wrote songs for the show, we used to go out on tour, and we raised money for pediatric AIDS all over the country.

We raised about a quarter of a million dollars.” The Kurth & Taylor Foundation, “which supports various children’s hospitals and direct service programs,” continues to raise money even though Kurth no longer performs as Eddie Maine. His real-life band does the same.
