It turns out that Carl wrote letters to the people he loved on his final day, conveying his aspirations for the future and the resolution of the Saviors’ conflict.

Carl passes away in the midseason premiere of S08E09, “Honor,” after professing his love for his sister Judith, father Rick, and stepmother Michonne.
Carl played a significant role in ending the conflict by convincing Rick and Negan that a peaceful existence would be preferable.
