The American rapper, singer, and songwriter Rodarius Marcell Green (born August 27, 1998) goes by the stage name Rod Wave.
Alamo Records signed Green, who is renowned for his powerful voice and fusion of R&B and hip-hop. He is recognized as a “soul-trap” pioneer.
“Heart on Ice,” a song by Green from 2019, became well-known after going viral on TikTok and peaking at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On the US Billboard 200, his debut album, Ghetto Gospel (2019), peaked at number ten. The song “Rags2Riches” (remixed with Lil Baby) from his second album, Pray 4 Love (2020), reached its peak at number two on the chart and peaked at number 12 on the Hot 100.
His following studio albums, Soulfly (2021), Beautiful Mind (2022), and Nostalgia (2023), all had their Billboard 200 debuts at the top—the latter of which remained there for several weeks—and won him more praise from critics for his lyrical and soulful delivery.
Being the only artist to release a new, chart-topping solo album in each of the preceding three years, his success paralleled that of Taylor Swift.
What happened to Rod Wave?
Rod Wave was arrested and charged in Florida. The arrest was connected to a shooting in St. Petersburg on Sunday night in which four people were hurt.
Rap-Up claims that Rod Wave was taken into custody by Pinellas County police for possessing a firearm that belonged to a convicted felon, as confirmed by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
However, Rod was released from jail hours later after the charges were “determined not to be accurate,” a police spokesperson said.
Wave’s attorneys, Mark Rankin and Bradford Cohen, said, “The officers that made the arrest are incorrect.”
“He has never been convicted of a crime and is not currently a felon. Before they filed these charges, more research would have been conducted.”
The Singer’s Previous Legal Issues
Rod Wave was taken into custody in St. Petersburg, Florida, in May 2022, following an alleged incident that happened the previous month.
According to the outlet, Wave was charged with going into his girlfriend’s house on April 24, 2022, and strangling her.
According to reports, the singer had a booking at the Pinellas County Jail.
Bradford M. Cohen, the singer’s lawyer, however, supposedly described the event as a “misunderstanding.” As a result, the singer’s charges were eventually dropped.
