Who is Duffy?
The first mate of Captain Tyler McLaughlin’s fishing boat, Pinwheel, was Nicholas Fudge, also known as Duffy. The birthplace of Nicholas Fudge is Topsfield, Massachusetts.
In Greenland, New Hampshire, he was raised. He attended Portsmouth High School and participated heavily in extracurricular activities there. From a young age, his father and grandfather fostered his love of fishing.
2008 saw Duffy graduate from Portsmouth and begin employment at a company that builds boats. After working for many years in the fishing industry, he eventually rose to the position of national champion sport fisherman.
His position on the Wicked Tuna crew was secured by his experience and talent. In 2014, he made an appearance on the spin-off “Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks.”
What happened to Duffy on Wicked Tuna?
Duffy, real name Nicholas Fudge, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 28. A local fisherman told the New Hampshire Union Leader that he “may have been a victim of decompression sickness, also known as ‘the bends,'” despite the fact that New Hampshire police did not disclose the cause of death to the public.
Inadequate decompression after exposure to elevated pressure is the cause of decompression sickness. In proportion to the ambient pressure, the body’s tissues take up nitrogen from the breathing gas during a dive.
The gas poses no threat as long as the diver stays under pressure. However, nitrogen comes out of the solution and forms bubbles in the tissues and bloodstream if the pressure is lowered too quickly.
Weakness, numbness, lightheadedness, joint pain, and dyspnea are a few signs of DCS. Additional symptoms of the illness include tremors, a blotchy rash, weakness in the muscles, and blood in the cough.
He earned a place on the National Geographic reality show Wicked Tuna for multiple seasons after becoming one of the top sports fishermen in the country.
Additionally, Nick loved the environment and took his duty to preserve it seriously.
Following Duffy’s death a few days before the start of Season 8, Captain Tyler McLaughlin made the decision to carry on with the program without his closest friend and first mate.
Tyler made the decision that Marissa, his sister, would serve as first mate because she is more than competent and holds a captain’s license.
Tyler’s best buddy passed away, and Season 8 paid tribute to him by having the fisherman donate his first catch of the year. The National Geographic channel showed the highlights of Duffy and Tyler’s whole series after the program.

An American reality television show called Wicked Tuna follows Gloucester, Massachusetts-based professional tuna fishermen as they search the North Atlantic Ocean for the valuable Atlantic bluefin tuna.
