The broadcast news community in Australia is in sorrow at the death of one of its own. Nathan Templeton, a former anchor for Channel Seven, was discovered dead on April 9 in Geelong, Australia, close to the Barwon River.
At 44, he was. According to the officials, the death is “not being treated as suspicious at this stage.” His two young kids and wife Kate Coghlan make up his family.
Former coworkers characterized Templeton, also known by the nickname “Tempo,” as “kind,” “funny,” and “very good at his job.”
Templeton worked at Southern Cross Tasmania before joining Channel 10 in 2004 to work in on-air news.
He started working at 7News Melbourne eight years later, where he became well-known for his coverage of the Olympics and for his work as an Australian swimming poolside reporter.
Even though he reduced his on-air reporting responsibilities in 2022 due to personal issues, Templeton’s passing is still having an impact on his former colleagues.
After learning of Templeton’s passing, other Australian athletes also shared their sorrow. A homage to the late announcer was also expressed by the Australian Olympic squad.
Tragically, he passed away while allegedly taking his dog for a walk following a medical crisis. He recently uploaded images of his two boys, Jack and James, cracking their Easter eggs on social media.
A week ago, he remarked, “Favourite morning of the year,” next to the photo. Templeton was regarded as a well-liked figure in the newsroom.

He retaliated against Georgia Love in a 2021 incident when she issued a group message to her Channel 7 staff pleading with them to employ the American pluralization technique known as “surgeries.”
Admired senior reporter and general “great guy” Templeton responded with a reply-all. After hearing of Templeton’s passing, Sunrise viewers have been flooding the show with condolences.
In the past, Templeton covered Melbourne for Seven Network’s Sunrise breakfast show.
Templeton began his career with Network Ten, where he provided stories for 10 News First in Melbourne and was a regular on the network’s Breakfast Show.
Templeton relocated to the Seven Network in June 2012 to serve as a sports reporter for Seven News Melbourne. He covered the Australian Open and other big sports events.
Templeton began working for Sunrise in May 2016 as their Melbourne reporter, taking Rebecca Maddern’s place when she left for Nine Network. He filled in as Sunrise and Weekend Sunrise’s sports presenter on a regular basis.
Templeton covered the Olympic Games from 2016 in Rio de Janeiro to 2020 in Tokyo in 2021, as well as the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, as a poolside interviewer for the Seven Network.
