What happened to Gibbs on NCIS?

We all know Leroy Jethro Gibbs from NCIS. Gibbs, who has been awarded both a Purple Heart and a Silver Star, is quiet, stoic, and intimidating.

He will never be seen bragging. Even though it is been a while since viewers last saw Agent Gibbs, fans are still curious about his exit from the show. The two main questions are: What caused Mark Harmon to leave NCIS, and what originally transpired to Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs?

Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs

He is a strong, reserved individual who takes pride in performing his duties without speaking about them. Although he does not express himself much, his teammates, especially Abby, sense a strong emotional connection with him.

Gibbs grew up in a nation where coal was mined, where he learned the value of a strong work ethic and commitment. Gibbs put in a lot of effort in school but decided against attending college and instead joined the Marines.

What happened to Gibbs on NCIS?

The hitman was taken where he desired by Gibbs in exchange for information after the hitman abandoned FBI Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole). The murderer did not blow himself up until after telling Gibbs who hired him and that he was the one who had destroyed his boat.

The investigation led Gibbs to Sonova Industries, whose impending copper mining project in Naktok, Alaska, threatened to wipe out the community.

After learning that Sonia Eberhart, the CEO of Sonova, had hired a hitman to kill anyone who might reveal information about the mine’s environmental effects, Gibbs and the NCIS team set out to gather evidence to prove her guilty of killing the journalist who was looking into the company’s environmental damage.

But Gibbs had no intention of leaving his job. Gibbs had broken the law by deserting the FBI and assisting the hitman in reaching his intended killing location. He even gave Parker exact directions on where to find him, showing that he had every intention of doing time for his crime.

The end of Gibbs’ tenure with NCIS would not take place in that manner. Because Parker refused to follow orders to arrest Gibbs, he lost his job. Parker saw all the good things Gibbs had accomplished and decided that he did not deserve that fate.

Gibbs made the choice to remain because he felt at peace there. Since the passing of his wife and daughter, he had not experienced peace, and he was unwilling to let it go.

Why did Mark Harmon leave NCIS?

In a special featurette for the Season 19 DVD of NCIS, executive producer Harmon hinted that he might have left the program “to keep it fresh in his career.”

In a November 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Harmon also mentioned that getting older played a role in his decision to leave NCIS.
