On Wednesday, security removed comedian Mark Normand from the middle of his stand-up show, and the audience was then asked to leave as well.
The incident occurred during his set at the renowned New York Comedy Club when sudden, frantic activity in the center of the small crowd drew everyone’s attention. A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
The comedian seemed to notice it too, awkwardly trying to figure out what was happening onstage and diffusing the situation with jokes about the matter.
This continued until he was asked to leave. The audience’s nervousness was palpable because no one knew if there was any danger. The comedy show’s producer eventually asked the audience to leave without explaining why.
What is more bizarre is that Normand went about his business on Thursday morning, tweeting as usual. He did, however, address the situation on Instagram.
He wrote, “Some s*** went down tonight; my team is still trying to piece together the details, sorry to the fans,” implying that even the artist was unaware of what had happened the night before.
People online have been talking about the incident and posting their theories. Some think that such a stunt could be just in line with Normand’s brand of humor, but all evidence points to it not being the case.
