Who was Ava Wood?
Upstate New York was home to 14-year-old student-athlete Ava Wood. She was an extroverted and well-liked student who was good at track and field, soccer, and athletics.
She had a close-knit group of friends and played junior varsity football for the Baldwinsville Girls. Ava was well-known for her academic commitment, will to do better, and innate talent in athletics.
She was doing well academically because she had made the honor roll for the most recent quarter.
What happened to Ava Wood?
Ava Wood, and her father, Christopher Wood were found dead in their upstate New York home on January 20, 2022, in what seemed to be a murder-suicide.
Both Ava and her father were found dead from gunshot wounds to the head in separate rooms, according to the authorities. Christopher’s wound appeared to have been self-inflicted.
The bodies were discovered as a result of a welfare check that Ava’s mother, Heather Wood, ordered when her daughter failed to go to school and no one answered the door. A criminal investigation into Ava’s death has been started.
The Wood home had been turbulent before the catastrophe. Ava’s parents, Christopher and Heather, were reportedly separated and divorced.
Days before the tragedy, Christopher threatened Heather via text. According to multiple accounts, Heather said to the police that on January 19, 2022, Christopher told her over the phone, “This is how it ends for us now”
Ava Wood was a popular and social student
Ava Wood loved sports and was involved in track and field, soccer, and athletics. On the Baldwinsville Girls’ Junior Varsity Soccer team, she was ranked #18.
Ava had a close-knit group of friends, was outgoing and popular, and had made the honor roll for the most recent quarter, according to Syracuse.com.
Her track and soccer skills were natural, according to friends and instructors, and she motivated herself to go faster.
Ava Wood’s mother, Heather Wood, thanked the Central New York Community on January 21, 2023, for their love and support of her and her family.
Although the investigation is still underway, authorities think Christopher Wood shot himself after shooting his daughter, Ava Wood.
Funeral services
Funeral services were held in Baldwinsville for a 14-year-old killed in an apparent murder-suicide. At Baldwinsville’s Word of Life Assembly of God Church on Saturday morning, Ava Wood, 14, had her funeral.
On January 20, she was discovered shot to death. In another room, her father, Christopher Wood, 51, was discovered dead from what seemed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In addition to being a student-athlete, Wood attended Baldwinsville’s Durgee Jr. High School in the ninth grade. There was a memorial ceremony for her last Sunday. Her football coaches talked highly of her as a player and a person.
She was a fantastic child, according to coach Corey Fonseca, and everyone deserves someone like Ava.
