Doja Cat makes a daring comeback with “Attention,” and Mentions beef with Nicki

Doja Cat kept her promise. The multi-talented artist, who has had seven Top 10 hits in the last three years with songs like “Say So” and “Kiss Me More,” vowed last month to ditch the “mid and corny raps” on all upcoming albums and referred to her first two albums as “cash grabs” in a divisive series of tweets.

The singer-rapper-songwriter-producer is back with “Attention,” her first solo single since 2022’s “Vegas” from the Elvis soundtrack, and as promised, it finds Doja fusing upbeat pop melodies with hard-hitting rap verses.

She walks down the street unperturbed for the majority of the music video, even when it appears as though other people are trying to start a fight. The lyrics express a sense of confidence and describe a need for attention rather than love.

In his rap, Doja says, “I paid all my respect to those who taught me how to make it.” “You all fall into beef, but that is another conversation. And now I reap the benefits without confrontation.”

In a later verse, she questions why people have been trying to make fun of her by bringing up Nicki Minaj, asking, “Why does she think she Nicki M?” She thinks she is very hot.

Doja brushes off the controversial criticism and praises the Barbz’s leader, saying, “Of course, you bitches are comparing Doja to who the hottest is.” Additionally, she tweeted that it was “reach” to think that she was criticizing Cardi, who just so happens to have a song called “Hot S**t” Will that be sufficient to keep relations between the Bardigang and the Barbz peaceful? It is difficult to say.

We only know that despite the song “Attention’s” dreamy chorus mentioning being hungry, Doja does not seem to be in the mood to order any beef.

Fans are cheering for a specific section of the song that highlights Doja Cat’s persona. Recently, some people compared the female rapper Doja Cat to Nicki Minaj.

Doja Cat, Y2K, and Rogét Chahayed all contributed to the song’s writing. The song was also created by the latter two musicians.  The new “Attention” music video, which was filmed in Los Angeles, was directed by Tanu Muino. As It Was by Harry Styles, “Up” by Cardi B, “Chicken Teriyaki” by Rosala, “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” by Lil Nas X, “Wild Side” by Normani, and other songs have music videos directed by Muino.

Doja Cat appeared on three songs that were included in Pitchfork’s list of “The 100 Best Songs of 2021”: “Get Into It (Yuh),” “Kiss Me More,” and Saweetie’s single “Best Friend.”
