Even though the summer weather may have been less than ideal (to put it mildly), we can always count on the start of a new season of Celebrity MasterChef to make August more enjoyable.
Currently in its 18th season, the celebrity-studded offshoot of the revered BBC cooking competition sees several well-known faces enter the MasterChef kitchen to wow judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with their culinary skills or, at the very least, cross their fingers that they will not embarrass themselves too much on national television. Remi Burgz, a radio host and DJ, is one of the Celebrity MasterChef competitors this season.
Who is Remi Burgz?
Remi Burgz began her career as a DJ at Reprezent, a community radio station in south London, and later rose to the position of Shaybo’s official DJ. Her career has been on an upward trajectory ever since she joined BBC Radio 1Xtra in 2021 to host the station’s weekend breakfast program.
She has presided over events like Parklife and Stormzy’s Merky Festival. She has also worked as a presenter on BBC Three’s Tonight With Target, where she conducted backstage interviews with artists like Ghetts and Jorja Smith.
Remi co-hosted the MOBOs and replaced Reece Parkinson as host of 1Xtra’s drivetime program earlier this year.
Oh, and in the BBC’s music industry drama Champion, written by Candice Carty-Williams, she made a brief cameo appearance as herself. She admitted that she was too busy to have much time to get ready for her time working in the MasterChef kitchen, which is understandable given her busy schedule.
What happened to Remi Burgz arm?
Remi Burgz was born with Poland Syndrome, a rare disorder that impairs the development of the pectoralis major muscle and the chest wall. Remi’s right arm is shorter than her left arm due to Poland Syndrome, and her right hand is only partially mobile.
In the past, Remi has talked candidly about her illness and claimed that she has come to appreciate her individuality. She has additionally claimed that her illness has not prevented her from pursuing her goals, and she is a well-known DJ and radio host.
Remi Burgz is taking part in the Celebrity MasterChef competition in 2023. She hopes that by sharing her experience, she can serve as an inspiration to others. She is the first contestant with Poland Syndrome to compete on the show.
Poland Syndrome
An abnormality that can affect the chest, shoulder, arm, and hand is caused by Poland syndrome, a condition in which affected people are born with missing or underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body. Individuals who are affected differ in the degree and severity of the abnormalities.
Typically, the pectoralis major, a significant chest muscle, is missing in people with Poland syndrome. The majority of affected people are missing a sizable portion of the muscle that typically extends from the upper arm to the sternum.
Concavity in the chest may be brought on by an abnormal pectoralis major muscle. Other torso muscles, such as those in the shoulder, side, and chest wall, may be absent or underdeveloped on the affected side in some cases.

To give people a place to feel heard and seen, Remi began her career Her membership in the LGBTQ+ community makes her proud.
Remi was further motivated by the knowledge that she might face discrimination in the industry because she is a Black woman and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Her awareness that, as a Black woman and an LGBTQ+ person, she might encounter barriers in the industry served as further inspiration.
She accepted the position of spokesperson for 1Xtra’s Pride campaign this year, and she is over the moon to fly the flag for representation.
