Waylon Sam was a young boy. His mother, Madison Holley, discovered him and despite efforts to save him, he could not be revived.
In a heartbreaking decision, His passing deeply affected his family, friends, and community, leading to memorial events and initiatives to honor his memory.
Waylon Sam’s story has also raised awareness about organ donation and safety precautions regarding furniture.
What happened to Waylon Sam?
On August 14, 2023, Waylon was crushed by a set of drawers that had fallen on him in his bedroom, ending his life.
He was being watched over by a babysitter for fifteen minutes when the accident occurred.
Waylon Madison Holley, Sam’s mother, discovered him blue, motionless, and without a heartbeat. Despite her best efforts, it was too late to save him. Following an emergency trip to the hospital, Waylon was given a life support system.
He could not be saved, even with the greatest of intentions from the medical staff, because his brain had been depleted of oxygen for far too long.
Madison had to make the painful choice to switch off the devices that were keeping him alive.
How Sam Saved Lives?
Madison discovered that Waylon qualified to be an organ donor as his health worsened. She decided to give others the gift of life in remembrance of him. She gave her permission to give his pancreas, liver, kidneys, and heart.
Waylon saved the lives of four people—a one-year-old child, a four-year-old boy, a 32-year-old woman, and a 36-year-old man—by making a brave decision.
Madison expressed her pride in her kid for becoming a hero and expressed her hope to one day meet the people who benefited from his organs.
How Waylon Was Remembered?
Waylon’s family, friends, and community were stunned and grieved by his passing. On August 28, 2023, he was laid to rest at a funeral service where his mother gave a heartfelt eulogy.
He was a cheerful boy, she said, and he loved his brothers, especially his voice-like older brother Cade.
She also shared his interest in windmills, which gave him constant joy and laughter. She praised everyone for their prayers and support, calling him a great person who touched many hearts.
People from all throughout the nation and beyond showed their love and admiration for Waylon Sam as word of his passing and organ donation spread.
Many people got windmill tattoos in remembrance of Waylon as part of an event organized by a nearby tattoo parlor called Windmills for Waylon.
A Change.org petition was started to demand justice for Waylon and to revive the Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) investigation into his murder and the babysitter’s involvement. Thus far, the petition has amassed more than 25,000 signatures.
Additionally, a memorial fund was established to assist Madison’s family with the costs of her burial and medical care. To date, the fund has raised more than $40,000.

Madison Holley expressed her gratitude to strangers for their kindness and generosity, which she said greatly assisted her in overcoming her loss and grief.
She expressed her gratitude for the chance to tell Waylon’s story and her hope that it will increase awareness of the significance of organ donation and the risks associated with leaving furniture unattended.
