One of the ways park skateboarding as a competitive environment differs from street skateboarding is how skateboarders come through the ranks from event to event.
Nevertheless, progression and luck do not play a role in Street, but if you consider the average age of competitors at our World Skateboarding Tour stops this season, you will see that in Park, we are seeing improvements throughout the series.
On this World Skateboarding Tour, those talents include Yuro Nagahara, Pedro Carvalho, Taylor Nye, Keefer Wilson, JD Sanchez, Ale Mazzara, and Thomas Augusto.
The 19-year-old representing Portugal on the WST has steadily increased the OWSR rankings since WST Sharjah and has excelled in San Juan and Ostia since, currently lying in 35th. Sensing that something big was approaching for him, we connected with Thomas.
What happened to Thomas Augusto?
Finished fifth in the 2024 Tampa Pro men’s vert.
He posted on his Instagram account: WE QUALIFIED FOR THE OLYMPICS PARIS 2024‼️
My journey to this point has taken me a year and a half, filled with many attempts but also incredible learning experiences.
I was two spots away from qualifying to go to this event, but I finished in 10th place and achieved my Olympic dream. I wish I could say the job was done, but the real training has just begun!! I appreciate everyone’s support.
Is it true that you have triple citizenship?
Yes, it’s true—I have a tri-citizenship! I am a Portuguese, Brazilian, and American citizen. Both my parents are Brazilian, and I got my Portuguese citizenship through my grandparents. I could not be more excited to represent Portugal in 2024’s road to the Olympics.
What direction do you think Park contests are currently moving in?
Yes, you can expect tricks to get gnarlier in the next few years. The generation we have competing right now and the new generation coming up are making the harder tricks look easier. I have a lot of tricks that I have put down on the vert that I haven’t brought to the park yet, so I’m excited to show them off!
I dream of being an inspiration to kids coming up and anybody in the world. I want to show people that anything is possible, no matter where you come from or what you’re given.
From an early age, my father instilled in me the belief that hard work and determination can lead to any goal. I wish to spread that all over the world.
