Penny Branning in EastEnders
Penelope “Penny” Branning is the half-sister of Amy, Ricky, and James Branning and the daughter of Jack and Selina Branning.
Her first public appearance was on January 21, 2008. After being run over by one of Jack’s criminal associates, the character—who was left paralyzed from the waist down—first aired in a few episodes of the show in 2008 alongside her mother.
That year, she moved out to live in France with her mother, but she kept stopping by Walford, putting herself in the way of Jack’s two current loves, Tanya Branning (Jo Joyner) and Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack).
What happened to Penny in EastEnders?
On New Year’s Day, Penny Branning from EastEnders and her cousin Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) made their way back to Walford.
After spending fifteen years living in France with her mother, Selina (Daisy Beaumont), Penny, the daughter of Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), is returning to the Square, and it appears she is already causing problems for her cousin Lauren.
Penny, who appeared in the soap opera from January to April 2008, is the daughter of Jack and his first wife, Selina.
When Jack was dating Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack), Penny made her debut on The Square in January 2008.
Jack told Ronnie that Penny’s unlawful actions as a dishonest police officer were the startling reason she was in a wheelchair.
One of Jack’s shady informants hit Penny with his car on purpose before he was sent down, as payback for being sent down.
During the ordeal, Penny’s spinal cord was severed, rendering her paralyzed from the waist down. Penny didn’t get along with Ronnie during her brief stay on the Square, but she did get along with her aunt Tanya Cross (Jo Joyner).
Penny didn’t want to leave Walford behind, as was evident during Tanya’s farewell dinner for Penny when Selina decided to move to France in April 2008 to be with her parents. But Jack convinced her to accompany Selina to France.
Who was playing Penny Branning after she left in 2008?
Actress Kitty Castledine was playing Penny Branning after she left in 2008. Kitty, the daughter of Homes Under The Hammer host Lucy Alexander, received her acting debut in EastEnders after graduating from the London Academy of Music and Drama this summer.
She had no idea that she would begin her EastEnders journey so soon after graduating from drama school. She was eager to get to work and initially did not think it was possible.
She mentioned that her entire family watches EastEnders, and she talked about how she used to watch the show while perched on her Nanny Kay’s lap.
Now that her family can watch her in Albert Square, she also mentioned how important it is for disabled people to be represented on screen, which is why she was thrilled to play Penny.
