What Happened to Lions Players Today?
Josh Reynolds, a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, recovered in the team’s 34-20 victory against the division rival Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football after failing to appear in the box score at all in the team’s victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.
Reynolds averaged a healthy 23 yards per reception while catching three of his six targets for a team-high 69 yards.
The 28-year-old, who gets along well with quarterback Jared Goff, has already received six targets three times in the past four weeks.
Reynolds is the most likely candidate to replace Amon-Ra St. Brown as Detroit’s No. 2 player, at least until Jameson Williams serves out the remainder of his suspension. He has 12 catches on 19 targets for 215 yards and two touchdowns through four games.
The Gambling scandal
A fifth Detroit Lions player from 2022 is apparently the subject of a gambling inquiry.
Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill, two wide receivers for the Lions, were each given a six-game suspension, and Quintez Cephus, a receiver, and C.J. Moore, a safety, will both miss at least the whole 2023 season as a result of their violations of the league’s gambling policy.
The athlete currently under investigation was not a standout player for the team the previous season, according to The Athletic, which did not identify the player.
The group let go of both Moore and Cephus. Shaka Toney, a defensive lineman for the Washington Commanders, has also been given a minimum one-season suspension.
This week, a “second wave of potential violations” is being looked into, according to ESPN.
For gambling, Calvin Ridley was suspended for the whole 2022 campaign. While on suspension, he was dealt to the Jacksonville Jaguars and later had his eligibility back. This season, he will make his Jacksonville debut.
Williams apologized for his behavior in his first speech following his ban on Thursday.
In the Pro Football Hall of Fame, how many Lions are there?
The Lions, one of the NFL’s veteran franchises, have produced some of the greatest players to ever lace a professional football field.
At the time of the 2021 induction ceremonies, 22 people (or around 6% of the 362 people admitted) who played at least one season with the Lions were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sixteen of them spent a substantial chunk of their careers playing in Detroit.
One of the all-time best running backs in the NFL, four outstanding defenders who spent at least 11 seasons with the Lions, and other players who helped Detroit win three championships in the 1950s are all represented on this list.
With victories in 1952, 1953, and 1957, that decade stood out as the Lions’ greatest dynasty. Seven members of Detroit’s Hall of Fame were heavily featured on those championship teams.
