Grant, Alison Oliver, and Archie Madekwe. Set in Oxford and Northamptonshire, it follows a student at Oxford who becomes obsessed with a popular, aristocratic fellow student at his university, who later invites him to spend the summer at his eccentric family estate.
/Saltburn premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on August 31, 2023, then was released theatrically in the United Kingdom on November 17, 2023, and in the United States via a limited theatrical release on the same day.
The film had a wide release on November 22 before being streamed by Amazon Prime Video on December 22, making it one of the most-streamed films.
It received positive reviews from critics and several accolades, including nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and five BAFTA Film Awards.
What happened to Felix in Saltburn?
Since the beginning, you might have realized Oliver is not as innocent as he seems to be. He has devised a complex plan.
After a few days of absolute joy playing tennis in tuxedos and attending fancy alcohol-fueled dinners, Felix and Oliver’s relationship begins to deteriorate.
Felix discovers Oliver was lying about his family: he claimed his mother was an addict and his father was dead, although they are a very alive middle-class couple.
As we soon discover, that was not Oliver’s biggest deception.
Despite Oliver losing Felix’s trust, the Catton family goes ahead with Oliver’s birthday party in Saltburn, which includes costumes and debauchery.
Oliver eventually follows Felix into the garden’s maze, visibly drunk. They argue, but things do not appear to escalate as Oliver returns to the party.
The next morning, Felix is discovered dead in the maze’s center.
Why did Felix get kicked out of Saltburn?
Oliver accuses Farleigh of encouraging Felix to use drugs, which is too much for Elsbeth and James, who kick him out.
Later, Venetia appears to commit suicide after confronting Oliver about how he was able to integrate himself into the Catton family.
The Wild and Confusing Ending of ‘Saltburn’
The conclusion of the thrilling drama “Saltburn” is sure to leave viewers with more questions than answers. Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan), a seemingly poor social outcast at Oxford University, falls in love with the wealthy Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi) in Emerald Fennell.
Despite their class differences, Oliver and Felix develop an unlikely friendship. When Oliver’s father is alleged to have died from an overdose, Felix invites him to spend the summer at his family’s opulent estate, Saltburn, to avoid having to return home.
Oliver quickly learns about the other half’s lifestyle while visiting the aristocratic — and eccentric — Catton family estate.
As the summer progresses, Oliver becomes increasingly at ease at Saltburn, and to stay, he learns things about the Cattons that allow him to get closer to the family — perhaps a little too close.
While “Saltburn” appears to be a satire of Britain’s stiff-upper-lip elite, the final act takes things up a notch and transforms into a twisty thriller.
