Barnaby Webber was 19 years old when he had his life cut short. The university student was one of three people killed during a rampage that has been described as “despicable and murderous.”
After spending the night out with his friend Grace O’Malley-Kumar, he was attacked while walking home from Nottingham University, where he was studying history.
On the day of the incident, Barnaby and Grace were walking home from a night out when they turned to talk to each other with animated arms. Sadly, though, the teenagers never returned to their university hall.
In June 2023, after the horrifying event, Barnaby’s mother spoke about her “beautiful boy” at a vigil in Nottingham and urged the bereaved to “hold no hate.”
Barnaby’s heartbroken mother, Emma, said that the “monstrous individual” responsible for the horrifying deaths “will not define us.” Bravely speaking and fighting back tears, she said: “I know he will receive the retribution that he deserves.
“My beautiful, beautiful boy, you have mine, your dad and your brother’s heart forever.” – Emma Webber
What happened to Barnaby Webber?
The family of a teenager who was fatally stabbed hopes to create a lasting legacy in his memory.
In June 2023, Valdo Calocane killed Ian Coates, 65, Grace O’Malley-Kumar, 19, and Barnaby Webber, 19.
Following Barnaby’s death, his family set up the Barnaby Webber Foundation, and hundreds will attend its first fundraising event at the teenager’s former school in Somerset later.
“This foundation will allow everyone to see Barnaby for what he was, and will be – which is a guiding light,” event organizer Tanya Sheasby said.
The foundation will use the funds it raises to support charitable organizations that help underprivileged youth.
In an interview, Ms. Sheasby said, “The fund will go to facilitate cricket, foundation cricket equipment clubs, and training for underprivileged children – regardless of the demographic you are from.”
“It will be available for other young adults to find and apply for assistance from this foundation if they are having difficulties with their circumstances.”
Who attacked Barnaby Webber?
Calocane was apprehended on suspicion of murder after it was determined that he was the culprit.
Valdo Calocane was charged with triple murder on June 16, three days after the attack. Calocane was at the time reportedly experiencing “extreme” mental illness, according to the court.
During the sentencing process, Mr. Justice Turner called the attack “frenzied” and said, “You committed a series of atrocities in this city which ended the lives of three people in this city.”
The nation was horrified by your heinous acts, which also destroyed the lives of the victims who survived and their families. “Your actions have horrific consequences, but your mental health is unaffected.”
