This page honors Kevin Dolan, highlighting his life’s journey, accomplishments, and the lasting influence he had on everyone he was fortunate enough to meet.
Love and Family
Kevin’s story of meeting the love of his life, Barb Wirtes, during his time at Notre Dame, is one of the most amazing ones.
Barb and Kevin were St. Mary’s students whose paths intertwined and resulted in a lifelong love relationship. Four children entered their lives after their 1981 marriage: Brian in 1983, Maggie in 1984, Sean in 1986, and Kevin in 1987.
Over the years, their family has expanded to include a variety of animals, each of which has brought a certain charm to the Dolan home.
Career Achievement
Kevin had a great job in addition to loving his roles as a husband and parent above all else. He started working at Abbott Laboratories after graduating, and he remained there for an amazing 33 years until he retired in 2012.
During his time with Abbott, he worked in a variety of finance and accounting positions, including Vice President and Controller of the US Pharmaceutical Division and TAP Pharmaceuticals, an Abbott-Takeda Chemicals of Japan joint venture.
Community Participation
Kevin continued to be very active in his community even outside of his profession.
He was a devoted member of the Santa Maria del Popolo school board, an enthusiastic coach for his son’s basketball teams, and a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus’ Mundelein chapter.
He was motivated to run for office and was elected to the Mundelein Park District Commissioner, a position he held for an extraordinary 25 years until his death.
Interests and Hobbies
Kevin continued to be involved in a number of activities after leaving Abbott. He loved to grill and cook, and he was well-known for making a tonne of food for his loved ones.
His cooking abilities were renowned. Another interest he had from infancy was golf. He took pride in his special “Kevin-ish” style of golf, jokingly crediting his ability to hit out of difficult situations to the drives that put him there in the first place.
He became the owner and proprietor of the Four Seasons Golf Resort and Tiki Bar because of his passion for golf.
Family and Legacy
The affection and memories that Kevin Dolan shared with those around him preserve his legacy. He was a loving, devoted, and humorous family man.
His mother Mary Dolan, father John Dolan, brother Jack Dolan, and the illustrious members of the Temptations—aside from Otis Williams—all passed away before him.
His devoted wife Barb, children Brian, Maggie, Sean, Kevin, and Meghan, as well as his adored grandchildren Quinn, Maeve, and Clare, survive him.

Keeping Kevin’s Memory Alive
In honor of Kevin, the family has asked for two acts of kindness. They request donations to St. Edward Catholic School in Chicago, where his cherished grandchildren attend, in lieu of flowers.
They also reflect the deep significance of family that Kevin held dear throughout his life by urging everyone to take the time to call their fathers today and show their love.
Following Kevin Dolan’s death, we pay tribute to a man whose life was full of happiness, humor, and a strong sense of duty to his family and community.
