According to a representative who talked to Axios, CMT has stopped broadcasting the disputable music video for “Try That in a Small Town” by Jason Aldean.
The song was published in May, but the accompanying video, according to Billboard, was not released until July 14. It was heavily played through Sunday until it was taken down on Monday.
“Try That In A Small Town”: A Big Controversial Music Video
Many people claim that while opposing gun control and anti-police rallies, the song carries a menacing tone. The film, which was made public on Friday, combines footage of protests with footage of fires, crimes, and burning flags.
In “sundown towns,” a type of all-white segregation where persons of color and other outsiders knew they risked violence if they were not out of a place before the sun went down, critics claim the lyrics are suggestive of vigilantism, racism, and such things as “sundown towns” and vigilantism.
The recently released music video of Jason Aldean for the song “Try That in a Small Town” brought the debate surrounding the song to a new level. Some viewers noted that the film featured sequences that appeared to have been taken in front of Columbia, Tennessee’s Maury County Courthouse.
Several instances of racial violence have taken place in the courtroom, including the hanging of a Black man called Henry Choate in 1927. Additionally, it provided a setting for the Columbia Race Riot in 1946.
The film also contains clips from demonstrations against police violence and images captured by security cameras during robberies.
Aldean responded to the criticism in a tweet on Tuesday by tweeting that his video does not contain a single fake video clip that has not happened. A commenter, however, referred to it as a “modern lynching song.”
Aldean claimed that for him, the phrase “Try That In A Small Town” describes the sense of belonging he experienced as a child when we looked out for one another regardless of our backgrounds or religious beliefs. Because, above all other considerations, they were their neighbors. But other critics haven’t seen it that way.
Aldean’s emotional experience of the Mass Shooting in Las Vegas
When a shooter opened fire repeatedly into the audience during the entertainer’s performance in 2017 at the Route 91 Music Harvest Festival, in Las Vegas, 58 people were killed and hundreds more were injured. American history’s worst mass shooting occurred in this occurrence.
Aldean opened out about his emotional experience following the tragedy and that he was open to stronger gun control legislation. In his social media post on Tuesday following that incident, he recognized the tragedy, saying that no one, including him, is interested in continuing to see unnecessary headlines or families broken apart.
