Born on June 20, 1969, Alexandra Maria Guarnaschelli is an American chef, cookbook author, and television personality.
She was executive chef at The Darby restaurant until it closed, and she is currently employed as such at Butter restaurant in New York City. In France, Guarnaschelli studied cookery in great detail.
Her television appearances include Guy’s Grocery Games (as a judge and contestant), Iron Chef America, The Kitchen, Chopped (as a judge), All-Star Family Cook-off, and The Best Thing I Ever Ate.
She is the host of Supermarket Stakeout, The Cooking Loft, and Alex’s Day Off. She was the winner of The Next Iron Chef: Redemption in 2012.

How did Alex start on this tasteful journey?
Alex is the sole child of John and Maria Guarnaschelli. Although her family had relocated to New York City when she was just a few days old, she was born in St. Louis, Missouri.
Guarnaschelli’s introduction to cooking came from observing her mother test a lot of recipes while working as a cookbook editor at home.
She earned her art history degree from Barnard College in 1991 after graduating from Horace Mann School in 1987.
How did Alex’s career take off?
She spent a year working for a minimal wage at An American Place restaurant in 1991. Guarnaschelli was employed under Larry Forgione, whose son is Iron Chef Marc Forgione, and later at other French, New York, and Los Angeles restaurants, notably La Butte Chaillot, owned by Guy Savoy.
Before taking a job as executive chef at Butter, she had worked at Joachim Splichal’s Patina and Daniel Boulud’s restaurant of the same name.
