Soap Opera Digest claims that Avery left the show following the likely demise of her character. But that might just be a trick.
Esme does, after all, have a habit of resurfacing right when we believe she is gone for good. Furthermore, it appears that Spencer will make a comeback to the show, so why wouldn’t Esme?
After accepting the position, she declared, “At the end of the day, my job is to tell a story and to entertain people, and if they love to dislike me, then my job is finished.”
Enthusiasts speculate that Esme’s departure was a plot device to temporarily write off Spencer because it was confirmed that Avery signed a three-year contract to stay on General Hospital in 2022.
The backstories of soap opera characters eventually reach their maximum development, and Esme’s story might have been ready to end at that point.
