The character of Sonny Corinthos was created during Bill Levinson’s final months as head writer in August 1993, just before Claire Labine replaced Levinson.
On September 24, 1997, Benard left the show after serving as its cast member for four years.
Benard returned to the position permanently on December 18, 1998, following a brief absence from May 15 to July 8, 1998.
It was announced that Joshua James Benard would return to GH on March 8, 2022. Benard will make a comeback on March 16, 2022; however, it’s unclear who he’ll be playing this time.
A Glimpse Of Sonny Corinthos
At first, Sonny was described as having Italian ancestry. When Sonny’s age was recorded as 42 on his arrest documents in 2012, his birth year was changed to 1969.
Due to his violent father, Deke Woods, locking him in the closet when he was a boy, Sonny has claustrophobia.
Sonny has a total of eight children: five alive, four dead, one stillborn, two grandchildren, and a stepdaughter.
His closest friend is Jason Morgan. He was good friends with both the late Stone Cates and Robin Scorpio.
He and Jasper “Jax” Jacks had been rivals for a very long time, but they are now able to get along since they have children with Carly.
Life Of Sonny Corinthos On General Hospital
As a small-time mafia agent, Sonny Corinthos moved to the area in 1993. He starts dating the stunning Brenda Barrett, which marks the beginning of a well-liked Super Couple for GH. Stone Cates, Robin Scorpio, and Luke Spencer are all pals of Sonny’s. In the middle of their new professional partnership.
As Joe Scully’s covert accomplice, Damian Smith, the son of Frank, is exposed, the two start to destroy shipments for Deception Cosmetics. Scully is the one who saved Sonny from his violent stepfather. Thus, Sonny feels reluctant to take action against him. Mike gets shot during a fight at the docks, and Sonny shoots Scully, who is attempting to kill Mike.
While Jax and Brenda exchange vows, Lily steals Sonny’s vehicle keys and starts the engine, setting off a device that Rivera had hidden that was intended for Sonny. Later, after learning the truth, Sonny kills Rivera and looks for Juan Santiago, Lily’s firstborn child, by Miguel. After Lily passes away, Sonny receives $30 million, which he donates to General Hospital to build a wing of the hospital in her honor.
After returning to Port Charles and learning that Brenda has passed away, Sonny quickly starts having hate sex with Jason’s girlfriend, Carly Benson, who is married to A.J. Quartermaine.
After Jason has left, Carly learns that A.J. is extorting money from her and that she is pregnant. In an effort to protect his child, Sonny finds criminal evidence against A.J. Then, after squeezing A.J., he quickly granted Carly a divorce.
After Carly has a miscarriage and after falling down the stairs at the Quartermaine mansion while arguing with A.J., Sonny flies her to his island and starts acting like a father to her son, Michael Morgan.

I have watched GH for 30 years and I remember so many of the characters comings and goings. And I remember Maurice Bernard aka Sonnys first appearances. I thought he was so handsome and played Sonny so well. I’ve watched every since. Never miss it. He’s a great actor no one could ever take his place that’s for sure. Great job Maurice ♥ Hope to keep watching you for many more years.
