Caroline Leigh Spenser, popularly known as Carly, is one of the fictitious characters on the ABC daytime soap drama General Hospital. She was the one-night stand child of the late lawyer John Durant and Nurse Bobbie Spencer.

Carly is renowned for her unwavering commitment and reckless personality. Numerous women have played the character, which rose to popularity for its contentious pairings.

Sarah Brown first played Carly on April 5, 1996, and continued doing so until 2001. Between 2001 to 2005, Tamara Braun filled the position. A 22-year-old woman named “Carly Roberts” is first seen on April 5, 1996, receiving money from a P.I. She later arrives in town with a single desire to destroy her birth mother, Bobbie Spencer. Carly befriends A.J. Quartermaine and begins a sexual relationship with his brother, Jason. Eventually, her identity is discovered by her uncle Luke Spencer.

Carly left town due to postpartum depression in 1998, still having never held her son Michael. Michael was born with a heart condition that left Carly afraid to touch or help him. After a while, Carly decides she is ready to hold Michael, and Bobbie drives her to the Port Charles Hotel, where Michael is at dinner with Jason and his godparents, Emily and Miere Carly reveals that she is Caroline Leigh Benson, Bobbie’s daughter.

Carly was sentenced to time in Shadybrook after shooting her ex-lover in public. A.J. duped Jason into believing he would persuade a court she was insane and force her to spend the entirety of her sentence for the crime despite Jason’s plan to free her. Tony Jones abducted both Michael and Robin.

When Carly misunderstood a passionate exchange between Elizabeth Spencer and Jason in 1998 and slept with Sonny Corinthos, which led to Jason leaving town, Carly was sent to a mental hospital. In December 1998, Carly and Michael moved into the cottage with Jason and his girlfriend, Robin Scorpio, after Jason obtained her parole. Even though Carly and Jason are preparing for a future with Michael, A.J. blackmails her into getting married.

In order to avoid testifying at his arson trial, Carly marries A.J. in 2000 but soon learns she is pregnant. In Martinique, Sonny and Carly redo their wedding vows after nearly losing Sonny in a fire on Valentine’s Day 2001. Sonny perceives Carly’s attempt to save him from the mob as a betrayal and files for divorce.

After Sonny remarries Carly, Alexis discovers she is pregnant, but a paternity test reveals the father to be her fiancé Ned Quartermaine. Courtney Jacks, Sonny’s half-sister, and Carly become good friends, and Carly even suggests that Courtney marry Jason Webber. Ric Lansing kidnapped Carly, thinking Sonny was to blame for his wife Elizabeth Webber’s miscarriage.

Morgan struck Carly in the head on October 23, 2003. After waking from her coma, she felt isolated from her loved ones yet continued to feel drawn when giving birth to Morgan. up to Alcazar. Kristina is Sonny’s kid, Alexis informs Carly.

Carly discovered that her birth father was criminal prosecutor John Durant in 2004. The news that she is divorcing Sonny makes him happy. Carly uses this information to force Alexis to represent her in a custody battle with Sonny in return for keeping Kristina’s paternity a secret.
