In a shocking revelation, three former dancers of the celebrated singer Lizzo have come forward, leveling serious allegations against her. They claim that behind her body-positive image lies a dark truth of harassment and a toxic work environment.
The complaint includes disturbing incidents of coercion and false accusations, leaving readers wondering what went on behind the scenes. As the details unfold, it becomes evident that Lizzo’s public persona may not fully reflect the reality of her actions, leaving everyone on edge as the truth is unveiled.
Lizzo: Who is she?
Lizzo is the stage name of Melissa Viviane Jefferson, an American rapper, singer, songwriter, actress, and musician. She was brought into the world in Detroit, Michigan, and when she was a decade old, her family moved to Houston, Texas. She relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, after graduating from college, where she started a career as a hip-hop music recorder.
Due to her weight, Lizzo has experienced body shaming throughout her career. She is a proponent of body positivity and self-confidence and is seen as a role model. She partially attributes shifting the narrative around size and giving prominence to overweight women to social media and the Internet in general.
What happened to Lizzo?
In a complaint filed on Tuesday, three of Lizzo’s former dancers claimed that the singer had harassed them sexually and fostered a toxic work environment. Furthermore, they guarantee that she erroneously blamed them for drinking at work and constrained one of them to contact a bare entertainer in a club in Amsterdam. She also allegedly made the group go through an “excruciating” audition.
The dancers said that Lizzo, a singer known for supporting body positivity and celebrating her figure, had brought attention to one dancer’s weight gain before berating and then dismissing that dancer after she had recorded a meeting due to a medical ailment.
Lawsuit Accuses Lizzo’s Dance Team
The lawsuit, which was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and made available to NBC News by the plaintiffs’ legal team, also holds the leader of Lizzo’s dance team responsible for sharing lewd sexual fantasies, simulating oral sex, and discussing the virginity of one of the plaintiffs in public while proselytizing to other performers and mocking those who had premarital sex.
Whether Lizzo knew about the charges against the dance skipper, Shirlene Quigley, isn’t expressed in the claim, however, the offended parties accepted the artist knew about their complaints against her, as per their lawyer, Ron Zambrano.
Allegations of Coercion, Unpaid Wages
The lawsuit, which was submitted on Tuesday in Los Angeles, contains claims that the dancers were coerced into participating in sex displays and socializing with them between 2021 and 2023.
Lizzo is accused of pressuring Ms. Davis to touch an entertainer’s bosoms in an Amsterdam club. Ms. Davis initially refused but eventually gave in out of concern for her future on the team.
Without going into detail, the case claims that BGBT employees reprimanded dancers for “unacceptable and disrespectful” behavior while they were on the tour.
Also, the offended parties guarantee that while they were chipping away at a portion of Lizzo’s European visits, she and the creation firm group didn’t pay them sufficiently.
They assert that the retainer offered to them for the time they weren’t appearing on the tour was barely 25% of their weekly salary. Additionally, they contend that Lizzo and the business preferred they refrain from taking on additional work during these pauses.
